Community makes SAR food drive a success
Thanks to the community's generous support, Selkirk Association of Realtors officials said the organization's annual fall food drive raised $1,582.05 and 1,345 pounds of food.
The donations were given to the Bonners Ferry Food Bank to support the local Community Action Partnership Food program.
The drive's success would not have been possible without the support of local businesses, SAR officials said.
"A special thank you to Lana Kay Hanson of Lana Kay Realty for supporting our small town consistently for many years," Darci Price said in a press release for the Selkirk Association of Realtors. "We would also like to thank our local dentist offices, Hank Willis, DDS, Bonners Ferry Family Dentistry, and Douglas Beazer, DMD, for their yearly contributions. We can always count on KG& T, JB’s Les Schwab Tires, Bushnell Law, Community Title, and Alliance Title for annual donations, as well."
Also contributing to the drive's success were local real estate officials and mortgage lenders, who volunteered during the drive, which was held at Super 1 Foods.
"We are always so thankful for their dedication and donations," Price said.
Thanks go to local Realtors: Kirsten Madden and Jim Greenslit, C21 Four Seasons Realty; Darlene and Trevor Schneider, Pace Kerby Real Estate; Mark Carey, Sam Carey, and Nancy Johnston, ERA-Shelman Realty; and Jennifer Van Etten, Coldwell Banker North Woods Realty. Mortgage lenders volunteering at the drive were Bill Hunter, Evergreen Home Loans; Linda Collier, Rocket Mortgage; Megan Smith, Prime Lending; Dave Jenkins, Freedom NW Credit Union; and Monique Beres, and Shanna Noble, Mountain West Bank.
Also owned thanks for their support and cooperation are Jeff and Matt at Super 1 Foods.
"You all have shown that we are a small town with a big heart," Price said.
With support from caring individuals, Price said the Community Action Partnership is addressing the hunger crisis in the community.
"They are on the front lines of the regional response to hunger," SAR officials said. "In 2022, over 85,000 pounds of food were collected to provide for 2,100-plus clients in Boundary County."
Since the beginning of 2023, the Community Action Partnership has accepted and distributed a total of 81,055 pounds of food. CAP serves over 300 clients monthly for food service and recently added 12 new households to those the organization helps. They assemble 55 food boxes per month. In 2023, they offer food 2 1/2 days per week, compared to three days a week in 2022.
This past year, the GROW Garden community contributed over 1,000 pounds of fresh produce to the local Senior Hospitality Center, Boundary County Community Restorium, and Community Action Partnership.
"We are so grateful for your partnership in helping neighbors in need to access affordable food in an atmosphere of dignity and respect," Price said. "Your gift makes a real difference in the lives of hungry families and helps them gather around their tables for a wholesome meal."
