Veterans Day tributes planned

Community events are planned to honor Boundary County residents.

Events include:

Nov. 9 — Veterans lunch: Naples Elementary is holding a Veterans Day tribute and inviting all veterans to visit during a free lunch. the lunch will be held from 11:20 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at Naples Elementary. Please call 208-267-2956 by 8 a.m. Thursday morning.

Nov. 9 — Veterans dinner: All veterans are invited to a dinner in their honor at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Veterans Alliance building, 6635 Lincoln St., Bonners Ferry.

The owners of Bonners Ferry Craft Brews, Lisa Camara and Kay Kabarsky will be preparing and donating a meal to members of the American Legion, Post 55.

A coalition has been formed for this event by Baked and Lavish, which will be providing dessert; Simple Simon's Pizza, which will be providing breadsticks; and Scott Stover, who will perform.

The event is a sign of the support and respect for the community's veterans, organizers said.

Nov. 9-13 — Field of Flags: Bonners Ferry High School would like to honor the community's veterans by dedicating its football field as a "Field of Flags."

All community members who would like to honor a veteran, can dedicate a flag in their name to be displayed from Nov. 9 to Nov. 13. All are invited to walk the field during that time. Any donations received will be donated to our local American Legion.

To dedicate a flag, send the name of a veteran and their branch to lisa.carle@mail.bcsd101.com or call Bonners Ferry High School at 208-267-3149.

Nov. 11 — Veterans Day ceremony: A community tribute will be held at the Boundary County Fairgrounds exhibit hall. The program, which starts at 10:30 a.m., with an invocation by chaplain Jack Sanders. A presentation of the colors will be conducted by the honor guard, Ben Apo, Tom Chaney, Jess Walker, Robert Raines, Kristie Turner, Brooke Blagrove, Chuck Blagrove, and David Lorenz.

The national anthem will be sung by Pastor Len Pine, and the Pledge of Allegiance led by Commander Schuman. The guest speaker is Rich Beck.

A presentation of blankets will be conducted by Margaret Pyett, "Taps" performed by Ron McKinley, and bells by Michaelle Walker.

Following the ceremony, the community is invited to attend lunch at Memorial Hall at the fairgrounds. Lunch begins at noon and a $2 donation is requested. The Campus Grill is catering the lunch.

On Nov. 13, a special veterans assembly will be held at Bonners Ferry High School in Becker Auditorium. The tribute begins at 7:50 a.m. and all veterans are invited to attend.
