Innovia honors Community Coalition for Families

| November 9, 2023 1:00 AM

Innovia Foundation recently recognized the life-changing work of the Boundary County's Community Coalition for Families at the foundation's annual reception on Oct. 9.

A recent grant recipient of Innovia’s Community Grants Program, the coalition was chosen as an outstanding example of how a local, grassroots organization can succeed in providing opportunities for every person to thrive within rural communities.

A driving force in the community, the coalition provides a vital network for volunteer groups and local agencies to collaborate, advocate, and work together for the betterment of all residents. Recognizing the growing challenges of housing instability and homelessness, the coalition is addressing these pressing issues head-on, Innovia Foundation officials said.

Each year, the foundation's Community Grants Program supports innovative programs like the coalition to address specific challenges and opportunities throughout the region to improve access to education, promote health and wellbeing, support arts and culture, create economic opportunity, and enhance the quality of life.

This summer, the foundation awarded the coalition a $14,000 grant to support its emergency housing program, an initiative poised to uplift over 50 local families at risk of homelessness by providing immediate financial assistance while encouraging long-term solutions for those in need. The program serves as a beacon of hope for community members experiencing unexpected life challenges, such as job loss or illness, which can lead to housing instability and homelessness, Innovia officials said.

Foundation officials invited the community to join them in celebrating the coalition and its work.

"Your involvement, whether through volunteering, offering donations, or simply spreading the word, can make a significant difference in the lives of those facing housing instability," Dig Chrismer, Innovia's rural engagement manager, said in a press release.

The coalition meets on the first Friday of every month at 7:30 a.m. at Chic-n-Chop. All are invited to attend and get involved.
