Football holds Jacks in the second half

ST. MARIES — Badger football (1-5) defense held the St. Maries Lumberjacks (2-4, 1-0) in the second half — it was a standstill with neither team scoring in the period.

However, the Lumberjacks already had a 28-0 lead at the half and the Badgers were unable to get on the scoreboard, giving St. Maries the win on Sept. 27.

“Defense played a great shutout second half and made great improvements,” said Bonners Ferry head coach Danny Swift.

This is the first game of the season that the Badgers have kept an opponent scoreless in a half.

Bonners Ferry junior quarterback Brody Rice had four completions and 16 attempts for 61 padding yards, average 15.3 yards and .250 completion percentage.

In rushing, Rice had eight carries and 19 yards. Senior Trey Bateman had two carries and six yards. Sophomore Conrad Hiatt had two carries and two yards.

For tackles, Hiatt had three solos and one assisted tackle. Junior Alex Taylor had one solo, Bateman had one solo and one assisted tackle, Rice and sophomore Taysean Spotted Horse had one solo tackle.

Points

St. Maries: Senior Trey Gibson, 4 TDs. Senior Wyatt Holmes and sophomore Kyle Smith with two point conversions.

The Badgers play at home on Friday against 2A Kellogg at 7 p.m. Homecoming is Oct. 13 against 2A Orofino.
