Former Lumber property annexed by city, pharmacy coming

BONNERS FERRY — At the Bonners Ferry City Council meeting Oct. 3, 10.95 acres of the formerly Kootenai River Lumber Company were annexed into the city limits. The property is owned by Idaho Forest Group.

Located on Riverside Road west of the Boundary County Fairgrounds and across from Search and Rescue, the parcel connected to the eastern 30-acre property that already was within city limits. The parcels are zoned commercial.

Chris Pease, with IFG, said at a previous meeting that the company prefers the property be within one jurisdiction rather than be split between the county and city limits.

In meetings over the summer, Pease and other IFG officials presented on putting housing and commercial mixed use on the property in the future. At this time there are no plans to use the property as a mill.

Also at the Sept. 5 meeting, the council approved a special use permit for a 0.31-acre drive-through pharmacy on the corner of Comanche and Chinook streets. The pharmacy is part of Boundary Regional Community Health Center/Kaniksu Community Health and would service their clients.
