XC off to districts, overcoming injury
Badger cross country is set to compete at District I 3A championships at Farragut State Park on Thursday.
The course is a 5K two lap course at Scott Field. Bonners Ferry cross country had a sneak preview of the district course on Sept. 9 when the team took part in the Timberlake Farragut Invitational Farragut State Park. The meet saw many Badgers earning notch PRs.
“This week for the most part we're trying to rest and take things a little easy,” Bonners Ferry head coach Tyler Warner said. “The point is to get as many folks to peak fitness on Thursday to have as many qualifiers as possible.”
“We've had a couple serious injuries that might impact our ability to qualify, but there's a reason we run the race and don't just cash it in after seeing PRs. We intend to compete,” he said.
Due to sustaining an injury, Micah Thomson , one of the Badgers lead runners, is out for the rest of the season.
There are two ways to qualify for state, as individual and as a team. As an individual, a runner must be in the top third to qualify, which is a maximum of seven runners. The top two teams qualify for state, since there are three teams in the Intermountain League this year.
