Buddy Hall memorial fund to honor beloved cat

| October 26, 2023 1:00 AM

BONNERS FERRY — Sometimes, a single event will take place that can change a life forever.

In June, 2014, a little kitten was dropped off at the Bonners Ferry Veterinary Clinic. To avoid it being adopted by the wrong home, it was named Sweet Buddy Blue Eyes, and immediately became Buddy Hall.

But this was no ordinary cat. Buddy grew up to become Dr. Roland Hall’s constant companion on hikes, bike rides, farm calls, and the infamous YOGA and calisthenic “Baby Kittens.”

Clients came from miles around to visit Buddy at the clinic.

When a feral cat came into the clinic, the normally meek and mild Buddy became the BFVC Guard Patrol, placing himself between the feral cat and his clinic staff family.

They knew Buddy always had their back. At home, he would stay up all night watching for a wandering feral cat who tried to fight Buddy through the window screen, again, guarding to protect his home and family.

But on Sunday, August 20, 2023, a bright light went out when Buddy Hall crossed the rainbow bridge to Kitty Heaven, leaving behind a grieving Mom and Dad.

In the 45 years of his veterinary career, Dr. Roland Hall never, ever, met nor loved a cat more than Buddy. So, to honor both the 70th birthday of Dr. Hall, and his amazing fur baby, Buddy, the Bonners Ferry Veterinary Clinic has established the Buddy Hall Memorial Fund.

The purpose is to help spay and neuter the feral cats of Boundary County.

The overpopulation of feral cats is a very serious problem countywide, clinic officials said.

Any donations will be welcomed and can be dropped off at the Bonners Ferry Veterinary Clinic office. A feral cat, brought into the clinic in a live trap will be charged $20/cat, and a signed permission sheet will be required. Volunteers will donate their time and donations will be used to offset the costs.

BFVC will accept two feral cats per day, first-come, first-served basis but the office must be notified the day before the cats are brought in. Then once per month, beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday,  Nov. 18, BFVC will host a feral cat spay and neuter clinic. Volunteers will work until all procedures are completed on the cats brought in for that day.

Future clinic dates will be posted on the BFVC Facebook page and announced in the local media.

The community is asked to help the clinic continue the special feline’s legacy as Superhero Buddy Hall.  For any further questions,  please  contact Linda Endow Hall at 208-255-8708.
