UPDATE: Meeting has been canceled.

BONNERS FERRY — Boundary County School District officials will interview candidates Monday for the vacate trustee position in Zone 3.

On July 17, former Zone 3 trustee Niki Weaver announced she would be vacating the seat due to moving out of state.

Weaver told the Herald she is grateful to Zone 3 voters for putting their trust in her and allowing her to serve the community.

Per Idaho Code, the vacancy will be filled by appointment by the board, and the appointee shall complete the vacated term. Applicants will be interviewed on Monday at 4:30 p.m. during a special board meeting.

Members of the public may attend the meeting, but will be asked to leave when interviews take place during the executive session. After the executive session, the board will re-open the meeting to the public and announce the appointed trustee.

The appointed trustee will finish Weaver’s term of office, which ends on December 31, 2023. The appointed trustee would have to run in the November election if he or she wishes to continue as trustee in Zone 3.

Zone 3 covers Bonners Ferry east of U.S. 95, a small area north of the Kootenai River, east to the bank of the Kootenai River and north of the western part of Kootenai Trail. For more information on the zone, go online to Boundary County’s website, the BCSD central office, 7188 Oak St., Bonners Ferry, the Boundary County Clerk’s office, or on the school district website at bcsd101.com.
