Donations needed to send humanitarian container to Ukraine
BONNERS FERRY — Donations have piled in as humanitarian support for the Kherson region in Ukraine; now funds are needed to send supplies overseas.
Over the weekend, volunteers organized and packed up humanitarian donations ranging from clothing and household goods to bedding, toiletries and medical supplies.
“On behalf of the organizers, I want to thank everyone who attended and helped sort and pack supplies,” said Seth Kinkade. “It was incredible to see the community come together in service of others. Thanks to generous donations from hospitals, dental offices, churches and charitable individuals, we were able to collect enough items to fill a 20-foot container with humanitarian supplies for Kherson, Ukraine.”
But the project doesn’t end there, organizers said. Now the real challenge begins — getting the container to Ukraine. The project received a $3,000 donation earlier on, but funding has only trickled in the past two months.
“We are still in need of funds to cover the shipping costs. We have almost enough to ship the container from Bonners Ferry to the port in Romania, but we still need $5,000 more to repack and ship by truck to Kherson,” he said.
Those interested in making a tax-deductible donation, can send a check to Hope House at 1283 Homestead Loop, Bonners Ferry, ID 83805 or make a donation through GiveSendGo.com under the Bonners Ferry to Ukraine campaign.
“Once we have organized the shipment, we will gather again to load the container and send it off,” Kinkade said. “Our goal is to get warm clothes and bedding to Ukraine before winter.”
This effort is being organized by Hope House of Boundary County, Bonners Ferry Rotary Club and Boulder Creek Retreat.
