SNOHOMISH, Wash. — A Bonners Ferry youth had a busy weekend competing in two Spartan Kids races and earning his Spartan Trifecta Kids Medal on Sept. 16-17.

Gordon Woelfe, 12, completed in his second Spartan Kids race on Saturday, Sept. 16 finishing sixth with an approximate time of 35 minutes.

He finished his third race the next day, completing the two-mile obstacle race in just 22 minutes, taking third place. By completing three races in a year, Woelfe earned the coveted Spartan Trifecta Kids Medal.

The 2-mile competitive race is open to youth ages 9-14 with categories broken down by gender and age. Each race required runners to do two laps of the one-mile course completing 10 obstacles per lap.

Obstacles include climbing walls, carrying filled buckets, sandbags, monkey bars, mud pits, sand hills, and more.

Woelfle participated in his first Spartan Kids race this past May in Montana and continues to look for races available to run during his bye weeks from football and other sports. The Trifecta medal is earned by doing three races in one calendar year, which was his goal for the weekend.

Woelfle also earned a spot on the podium, another one of his goals. Sunday's race had 26 male runners.
