Teagun Holycross, Montana University Track & Field

Priest River’s Teagun Holycross started off the outdoor season by winning the 100-meter dash (11.09) and helping the Montana 4x100 relay break a 55-year standing school record at the Grizzlies’ Al Manuel Invitational held Friday, March 22 at Dornblaser Field.

The 4x100 quartet consisting of Holycross, Jason Upton, Xavier Melice, and Cooper Hewett broke the school record with a time of 40.35 seconds and placed first at the invite. The old record, set in 1969, was 40.44 seconds.

"We were really frustrated after we ran that event in Sacramento last week because we have a really good quartet, but we just did not do a good job with the baton passing," head coach Doug Fraley said in a report by the Montana University Sports Information Department. "We came into this week very determined to fix those problems, and fix them we did. It resulted in us breaking the school record that's been there for over 50 years.”

Montana will travel to Bozeman for the Griz-Cat dual against Montana State on Saturday, April 6.

Jantzen Lucas, Lewis-Clark State College Baseball

After grabbing a win in the Warriors’ season-opener, the Priest River product has pitched well in all three of his other appearances. Lucas pitched in wins over British Columbia, Corban (Oregon), and Eastern Oregon over the last three weeks, giving up no runs during that span. He boasts a 2.45 ERA over 7 1/3 innings on the mound and has struck out 11 batters. The junior lefty holds a 5.5 strikeout to walk ratio (11:2) and has only given up one extra-base hit so far this year.

No. 8 Lewis-Clark State College (17-7) will face off against Oregon Tech on March 29 and 30 in a pair of doubleheaders at Steen Sports Park in Klamath Falls.

Cody Newhart, Lackawanna College Baseball

Sandpoint’s Cody Newhart continues to swing a hot bat for the Falcons. In a 29-0 win over Monroe College on March 15, Newhart hit a two-run single and drew a walk. On March 26, he also had a single and a run scored in Lackawanna’s 17-2 win over Sullivan Community College.

Lackawanna College (10-14) travels to play Harford Community College on Saturday.
