BONNERS FERRY — The Senior Hospitality Center has been closed until further notice to give officials time to investigate claims that funds have been misappropriated, interim director Misha Davis said Monday.

The senior center, located in the VFW building, was closed on Friday and will remain closed until further notice, excluding food boxes and meal delivery to local seniors, Davis said.

Davis said the center is out of compliance with meeting nonprofit status requirements, USDA regulations, insurance filing and taxes.

The center does more than provide a space for seniors to mingle and eat, it provides weekly meals and oversees three USDA-regulated senior housing facilities, Mountain View South, Mountain View North and the Oak Street Apartments.

“Our seniors deserve the best of us, but have been shortchanged,” Davis said.

A town hall event is scheduled for Tuesday, April 9 at 6 p.m. at the Senior Hospitality Center, 6635 Lincoln St., Bonners Ferry.
