THREE MILE — The 2 the Border Motorcycle Rally is returning to Boundary County in late June for a second year. Additional activities also are planned.

“This year, we are trying to set ourselves apart as a rally and not just a day ride,” said organizer Tony Wade. “A motorcycle rally is a multi-day event that generally includes camping. So this year, we have more rides and activities planned to keep people busy from Friday all the way through to Sunday morning.”

For the inaugural rally last year, the event was held at Jake's Landing in Porthill, the northernmost point of the Idaho Backcountry Discovery Route. Organizers said 38 people bought tickets in advance, but more showed up to the rally.

This year, the organizers have opted to be closer in town, holding the event at North Haven Campground in Three-Mile with the hope to rack in more participants, and provide additional amenities.

The poker run event will return, incorporating on-road and off-road checkpoints to give everyone a chance to have some fun. Riders will pick up a playing card at locations and the person with the best poker hand wins a prize.

Additionally there will be pre-planned routes or riders can go freestyle and explore all day on their own. The rally is not brand specific, allowing all makes of motorcycles and their riders to participate.

In the evening there will be additional activities and dinner. All routes will be distributed via the Rever app. All rides are self-guided, but organizers encourage riders to group up and ride with new friends.

Sponsors and other local businesses have donated some prizes for the raffle. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the welcome tent until Saturday afternoon. The tickets will be drawn on Saturday evening. Winner must be present to win.

Raffle ticket sales will be donated to Backcountry Discovery Routes to further its mission of creating and maintaining trail systems throughout the country.

Ticket includes dinner on Saturday evening and a simple barbecue lunch on the poker run. Breakfast and coffee will be available for purchase all weekend. Additional services, supplies and food can be purchased in Bonners Ferry.

Tickets for the two-day event are available at $69 for the early bird special until April 15. After that the price increases. Herald readers can use the code “Herald2TB” to get $5 off.
