Bonners Ferry’s first Pride event set for June
Bonners Ferry will hold the community’s first Pride event in June at the Pearl Theater.
“The ‘gay agenda’ is simply this: visibility for gay, lesbian, and queer identities that were historically marginalized,” Bonners Ferry Pride committee members said in a press release. “People who have long been ignored, persecuted, pushed into the shadows, and killed — simply for being who they were. It's a coming together of the community, both queer and allies, to support each other with acceptance and love.”
“There are queer people everywhere and a local Pride event lets them know they are not alone and that they are supported by their neighbors,” they said. "Please show up for each other. Love will win.”
The event will take place June 21-23. The tentative itinerary is as follows: Friday, June 21 will be the opening ceremony at 6 p.m. with a keynote speaker, followed by a dance party. On Saturday, Pride events will take place, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be vendor booths, musical entertainment, poetry readings, and more, all family-friendly, followed by an after-party at 8 p.m. for those 18 years and older with admission of $10. Sunday will be a movie marathon.
