100 Years Ago

Construction work was started on the new building of the Bonners Ferry Canning Company, near the S.I. Depot the first of the week; and the concrete foundation is now in place. A carload of lumber will be on the ground on Saturday, according to Fred Chambers, president and general manager of the company.

Cottage Avenue is to be improved in the near future by the construction of concrete sidewalks and retaining walls. 

Forty-four cans of year-end rainbow and eastern brook trout and land-locked salmon were brought from the state fish hatchery at Sandpoint this week and liberated in Boundary County streams, under the direction of Deputy State Game Warden Wm. Heathershaw. This is the first time salmon have been placed in Boundary County.

Boundary County School Dist. 101 board of trustees is interested in comments from the community concerning the choice of building sites for a complex to replace Northside and Southside elementary schools.

A new challenge lies ahead for the Wayne Nishek family. Wayne has accepted a three-year contract as agricultural inspector in the Tumaini Secondary School in Kinampanda, Tanzania.

The first Selkirk Saddle Club play day of the season was held last Sunday at the fairgrounds arena, with over 30 riders and horses attending.

Boundary County's employment rate for March hit a 26 year high and could worsen come April. Part of it is attributed to the timber industry's annual spring break-up.

Bonners Ferry City Councilman John Langs resigned as president during Tuesday's city council meeting due to health reasons. Langs nominated Dave Gray as new city council president. The decision to appoint him was unanimous.

Ian McConnaughey took first place for advanced design during the 14th running of Community Fellowship Church's Awana Grand Prix.
