Local man faces bomb possession charges
GOOD GRIEF — A Boundary County man is facing a felony charge of unlawful possession of bombs and destructive devices.
Daniel Peter Floyd, 58, was arrested on April 4 and scheduled for a preliminary hearing on May 3. If convicted he faces up to a $5,000 fine and five years in prison.
In a probable cause affidavit, Detective Caleb Watts, with the Boundary County Sheriff Office, wrote that while searching the property in the 100 block of Addie Road, he was assisted by a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms certified bomb technician and recovered three pipe style bombs with a fuse.
The bomb technician took X-rays of the alleged bombs and they were full of what appeared to be round steel balls, like buckshot and black powder. The fuses were then separated from the pipe.
As a test, some of the black powder and a piece of the fuse were removed and a flame was added, resulting in a violent reaction, indicating all three suspected bombs were active and intended to cause damage, Watts wrote. Additional canisters and marble-style balls were received.
Floyd is facing a civil case against his neighbors, whose property he is renting.
The affidavit goes on to say [redacted name] claimed Floyd had been making the bombs at his work bench and made statements that if his issues with neighbors were not resolved he would take “care of it himself.”
Bond is set at $100,000, however the court ruled bond would be set to $10,000 if Floyd made arrangements to not return to the Addie Road resident upon release.
