North Idaho adult hockey team wins USA Hockey National Championship

Full caption: An adult hockey team from North Idaho recently won the 60-plus Tier 3 USA Hockey Adult National Championship held Apr. 11-14 in Tampa, Fla. The North Idaho hockey team won four straight games, defeating teams from all across the country in order to take home the championship trophy: Florabama Jets (7-5), Space Coast 60’s (8-1), Vermont (7-2), and the Lancaster (Pa.) Wizards (7-3). Pictured, from left, are Lindsey Gorrill, Gary Schickedanz, Robert Pierce, Jim Johnson, and Dave Theirl, who are all from North Idaho with the exception of one Sun Valley player. Team members said it was a decisive and dominant victory and that it is believed to be the first hockey national championship of its kind to be bestowed upon Sandpoint.
