104th Boundary County Fair is now open

BONNERS FERRY — The Boundary County Fair opened for its 104th year on Tuesday, with Katie Vader and Colton Cohen named fair royalty king and queen.  

Despite a brief rain and thunderstorm, fair-goers came out for the opening ceremonies and the first day of festivities.  

Bonners Ferry Distinguished Young Woman Rylie Kimball sang the national anthem and Pastor Mike Munez of Covenant Bible Church prayed over the festivities.  

Judging, contests and events are throughout the week. Stop by the to catch “Movie Magic”, a musical presentation by the Talent Team, and visit the many booths and activities.  

On Thursday at 11 a.m. stop by for putt-putt mini golf at the north lawn. The event continues throughout the fair at 11 a.m.  

Thursday night is Family Fun Night at the outdoor arena at 6:30 p.m. Bring the kids down to participate in sack races and other events. Sign up for the greased pig and other contests at the ticket booth before the event.  

Friday night at 7 p.m. is the 4-H/FFA market animal sale, where young farmers see nearly years of work come to fruition as they auction off their animals.  

Saturday, August 10, is the last day of the fair, with the mechanical bull opening at 9 a.m. on the black top. A parade will be held in downtown Bonners Ferry and is scheduled for noon.  

Contests from a mullet competition, stick horse races, a pie-eating contest, and more  start at 1 p.m. on Memorial Lawn.  

The fair closes with the free family concert by Buffalo Speedway at 7 p.m. on the Black Top Stage.
