BFHS moves to 4A sports classification
Bonners Ferry High School has moved from 3A to the 4A high school sports classification as a new classification system was voted on by the Idaho High School Activities Association.
In the new 4A, the range is 350-699 students. The prior 3A, included 320-639.
Idaho high school sports now have six different classification levels instead of five and combine 1A Division I and II together. This decision was not popular among North Idaho schools, as a majority of North Idaho superintendents voted against the change.
The change in classification does not have a major effect on the Intermountain League, of which Bonners Ferry is a member.
Timberlake and Coeur d’Alene Charter will remain league opponents for the Badgers. CDA Charter offers a limited number of sports.
However, with the option for schools to petition down a league depending on the sport, Moscow High School/Middle School with be a league opponent for football only.
For Badger soccer, the league will remain 4A/3A District I, which includes Bonners, CDA Charter, Timberlake, Kellogg, Priest River, St. Maries, Grangeville, and Orofino.
Currently, the classification does not change any other BFHS sports.
