South Boundary wins relay at Family Fun Night
BONNERS FERRY — Teamwork and muscle memory led to South Boundary Fire Protective District victory over the county commissioners and Paradise Valley Fire in a relay race on Aug. 8.
In the spirit of friendly competition, the firefighters took on the Boundary County commissioners in a relay race including farm chores as part of Family Fun Night at the Boundary County Fair.
The relay included loading water buckets into a wheelbarrow and moving the load to the next teammate. The buckets were removed and hay bales where added. The final leg of the race included navigating the filled wheelbarrow around a cone and then back to the start.
Taking first, by a long shot was South Boundary with Chris Lummus turning the loaded wheelbarrow around the cone and nibbling navigating over ruts in the outdoor arena, he crossed the finish line.
Commissioner Ben Robertson was recovering from spilled hay, which also plagued Tom Chaney of PVFD as he turned at the cone.
Mistakes at the last event was Paradise Valley’s downfall, resulting in the commissioners taking second.
South Boundary participants included Chris Lummus, Chief Allen Merritt and Seth Hamilton.
Paradise Valley participants included Ben Wilson, Garrick Patty and Tom Chaney.
The Boundary County commissioners are Wally Cossairt, Tim Bertling and Ben Robertson.
