Balancing beauty with function, Iron Mountain Engraving

BONNERS FERRY — Specialized engraving made simple is available at Iron Mountain Engraving, a new family-owned business in downtown Bonners Ferry, located in the old First National Bank building.  

Charlie and Karen Frederico own and operate Iron Mountain Engraving and look forward to providing high-quality products and services.  

Iron Mountain Engraving can put any file, photo or logo on a variety of surfaces, including some metals, wood, acrylic, glass, and stone. They are only limited by size and imagination.  

“We want to provide a service to Bonners Ferry, and beyond, of quality laser engraving, and homemade quality gifts,” Charlie Frederico said. 

They offer homemade gifts such as earrings, bracelets, and necklaces. They also create their own greeting cards, named "Keep-It Cards,” since no one will want to throw away these personal and detailed cards.  

Frederico, a carpenter and contractor by trade, said the family moved to opening the business in hope that he can stay home more and as he ages, give a better retirement plan. 

With woodworking in mind and his love for sashimno, a Japanese technique of using blind joints, he plans to add furniture to their catalog as the business grows. The building has enough space to hold a woodshop in the back.  

Currently, Iron Mountain Engraving has a few hand-made wood furniture pieces for sale. More can be made by request.  

Iron Mountain Engraving attempts to find the balance between form and function in their designs. Their goal is to make unique quality hand-made products, while keeping practicality and use in mind.  

"We want all our products to be local and hand-made," Frederico said. “We want things unique but still beautiful. Because if it’s not beautiful then why make it.”  

An example of this is a customer requested wood cutting board which had measuring conversions engraved on one side.  

The Frederico family is excited to be part of the revitalization of downtown Main Street, as additional businesses have been moving into what were once vacant spaces.  

“We want to be in the old bank building,” he said. “We enjoy the idea of seeing the block and building develop, as it has tremendous potential.”

Iron Mountain Engraving is open Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. They are located at 7214 Main Street, next to the Rex Theatre.
