SEASON OPENER: Volleyball goes 1-3 against Cougars

BONNERS FERRY — Badger volleyball fell to Stillwater Christian (2-0) from Kalispell, Mont., 3-1 for the season opener on Saturday, Aug. 24.  

The Badgers stuck with the Cougars in the first set, as sophomore outside hitter Taren Bateman landed two kills in a row off spikes, as the Bagers led 24-22.  

Ultimately, the Cougars got past the Badger defense and won the first set, 26-24, and powered through the second set, winning 25-19.  

The Badgers came back in the third set, winning 26-24, but then the Cougars finished the match in the fourth, winning 24-20.  

Senior Helene Rae led the Badgers in kills with 13, followed by Bateman with 12. Ellie Falck and Kim Lucas notched four aces a piece. Eva Willis added four blocks, followed by Bateman and Lucas with two blocks each.  

Rae had 18 digs and Bateman had 10.  

On Friday, Aug. 23, the Cougars defeated the 4A IML Timberlake Tigers 3-2, winning 25-7, 25-27, 25-23, 29-31, 9-15. 

Bonners Ferry volleyball will host 5A Sandpoint on Friday at 3 p.m. 

Badger fans can further support the volleyball program team by purchasing Badger gear from Squirrelly Tees Snack Shack by Sept. 1.  

A portion of the proceeds for hoodless and T-shirts supporting Badger volleyball will be donated to the 2024 program.
