Mom was the second of four children: older brother Johnnie Jones, younger brother Larry Jones, and younger sister Pamela Smedley, all living in Oregon.

As a child of a logger, the family moved around a lot and mom went to several different schools, finally graduating from Philomath High School in Philomath, Oregon.

Mom met Glenn Mastre while he was working in a veterans hospital in Roseburg, Ore., in 1960. They were married May 10, 1961, at the Hitchin’ Post in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and settled in Bonners Ferry. On Oct. 7, 1961, their first child, a son, Stephen Glenn, was born. He was followed by a second son, Brian Todd, born June 20, 1963, and daughter, Deanna Rae (Yaeger), born Aug. 15, 1965.

Mom’s interests included sewing, crocheting, reading, among other things. She owned the Mode O Day store in downtown Bonners Ferry for a couple of years. She also worked as a secretary at LP in Moyie Springs, D & D Service, the unemployment office and with Candy Beck working with special needs adults.

Carrol was preceded in death by both parents, husband Glenn, son Brian, grandson Tyler, and brother Johnnie Jones. She passed from COPD, kidney and heart failure.

She is survived by son Steve (Deanna) Mastre of Anchor Point, Alaska; daughter Deanna (Pat) Yaeger of Bonners Ferry; granddaughters Sara (Kara) Kerby of Spokane, Wash., Callie Anne (Michael) Scalia of Parker, Colo., Leeza (Drew) Johnson of Seattle, Wash., Jessica (Darrell) Brooks of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Kristie Bottineau of Anchor Point, Alaska; and several great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

A memorial service will be held at the Mountain View Mennonite Church on Dec. 6, 2024 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hope House in Moyie Springs.
