Little League returns to Boundary County
After a 10-year hiatus, Boundary County Little League is back.
Boundary County is known for a love of community sports. It’s no wonder then that the absence of Little League over the years has been felt. The last two years, the young athletes were integrated into the Sandpoint Little League, and while this allowed children to participate, traveling the longer distance to practices and games was hard on some families.
Officials expect to have 11-12 teams in both softball and baseball. Registration for spring is expected to be open sometime this week and forms can be found online at boundarycountylittleleague.org.
Matt Pluid, Boundary County Little League president, said there has been a lot of interest in the program, most of which has been garnered through word of mouth and fundraising efforts that began over the past year.
Fundraising and sponsorship funds are used for gear, field improvement, and subsidizing for low income families. For those interested in becoming a sponsor, please visit the BCLL website and find the form for sponsorship in the forms tab or email 9blittleleague@gmail.com.
“We are really excited to help bring Little League back to Boundary County. And I’m very thankful for the people who have donated their time to help make this happen. I’m very proud of the support we’ve received from the community,” Pluid said.
Volunteers are always welcome, the program is still in need of coaches, umpires and general help.
