Winter weather has spring on everyone’s mind and what better way to begin preparation for a spring garden than to attend a local seed exchange. Baked and Lavish is hosting a Local Seed Exchange & Swap Mingle on Saturday, Jan. 27.

The event is the last Saturday in January, which also happens to be National Seed Exchange Day. The day has been officially observed since 2006, but seed barter has been around over a thousand years.

Trading seeds has many benefits for gardeners including, building seed inventories, finding seeds that may be hard to source, and allows them to share seeds. Seed swaps also help promote biodiversity and preserve rare plant varieties. It is also a fun way to meet new people.

The event is in the Baked & Lavish event room downstairs, right across from Bonners Ferry Craft Brews, from 1-3 p.m. Please call 208-255-9989 for reservations.

The cost is $27.50 per person and includes appetizers, refreshments, seed exchange kit and raffle. Bonners Ferry Craft Brews will be available for drinks to purchase on site.

Baked and Lavish is located at 6371 Kootenai St., city parking lot building in Bonners Ferry.
