Greg Keith Springett, 72

| July 11, 2024 1:00 AM

Longtime Bonners Ferry resident Gregory Keith Springett passed away June 25, 2024, after a long illness.

Greg was born in Rahway, N.J., but his love for the outdoors drew him west to attend Colorado State University. After living in Fort Collins for several years, Greg moved to Bonners Ferry looking to be closer to nature with easy access to hunting and fishing.

He loved a good laugh, he loved a good story and could play a mean blues harmonica. He often played in bands or anywhere else that he could.

Fly fishing was another great passion. An annual highlight for over 40 years was to head over to Ennis, Mont., and fish the Madison. Always enjoying the company of others, he would be joined by friends and family from Idaho, Colorado, New York, California and Wyoming. This would fill the local campground and hotel with fishermen and non-fishermen alike.

Greg was a vocational teacher who was beloved by his students. A popular project was building a replica of Thoreau’s cabin. Students learned valuable skills while the final product could be sold to generate revenue for the school.

Greg was a talented cook and loved to share his cooking with others. He would even bring his mole sauce camping.

In Greg’s will, his final request was to have his ashes scattered over the Ennis Three-Dollar Bridge.

Greg is survived by his daughter, Sarah; son Jesse; granddaughter Sapphire; sister Gail Boland; and brothers, Jeff Springett and Tom Springett … and a lot of trout.
