Badger basketball state champs receive rings

BONNERS FERRY — The 3A boys basketball state champions, Bonners Ferry, received their championship rings on July 8 and were honored before their families, friends and coaches.  

2024 marked the first time Bonners Ferry boys basketball has won the state championship.  

The Badgers finished the season 23-3, defeating Teton 54-47 in the championship game on March 2 at the Ford Idaho Center.

It was a season of hard work and consistency. The Badgers only losses of the season were to 5A Coeur d’Alene, 5A Lake City and 2A West Valley (WA ranking).  

The Badgers opened the season against 5A Coeur d’Alene, and lost 60-48. CDA went 21-5 (9-0) for the rest of the season.  

The Badgers fell to Lake City, 74-70. The Timberwolves finished the season 18-10 (5-4), placing fourth for Idaho 5A.  

For the second year in a row, Bonners Ferry fell to West Valley by one point at the West Valley Holiday Classic tournament over Christmas break. The Eagles finished 18-4 (7-3).  

After the loss, Bonners bounced back and went on a 17-game win streak, and remained undefeated in 2024. Their 23-3 record was fourth in the state among all classifications. With only one school, Lapwai, the 1A-D1 state champions with a better record at 26-2 (14-0). 

The Badgers outscored their opponents by an average of 26 points a game.
