Beulah Anderson, 94

| July 25, 2024 1:00 AM

Beulah Carol (McCalmant) Anderson was born Jan. 28, 1930, in Minatare, Neb., to Edgar (Jack) and Olive McCalmant; the 11th child of 12.

She spent her early years on the family farm, and at the age of 7, moved with her family to southern Boundary County, Idaho, settling on Ruby Creek. She attended grade school at both the Highland Flats School and the Moravia School, walking to each of the local schools. She boarded with the Johnson family while attending Bonners Ferry High School, working for her room and board. Mrs. Johnson remained a friend throughout those early years. She graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1948.

Beulah met Lowell Anderson while attending school at Moravia. They were married on April 8, 1948. Beulah always said they married early that spring, so Lowell didn’t have to walk her home through knee deep mud up and down the Ruby Creek Road.

The young couple lived in Pleasant Valley for a short time before moving to Highland Flats where they farmed the Walty Place on the north side of Round Mountain. In 1950, they purchased land on the South side of Round Mountain where they operated a grade A dairy until 1970. Their three sons; Roger, Ben, and Oscar were born while living on Highland Flats. After the death of Beulah’s sister Alice, her niece and nephew, Freida and Leroy Nagel joined the family.

Beulah took an active part in farming, milking 40 cows each morning and evening while Lowell was away all week working in a logging camp. As Anderson Logging Co., Inc. developed in the early 1970s, Beulah stepped up to keep the office running smoothly and participate in the daily operation of the family business. Beulah and Lowell worked together on the farm and within Anderson Logging. It was an ever-present reminder to their children that teamwork mattered.

Beulah was an active member of the community, participating in the Highland Flats Ladies Club and Naples Helping Hands. She was also a 4-H leader and involved with FFA. She was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church and participated in Trinity Lutheran Women and the Elizabeth Circle.

Beulah is lovingly survived by her children, Roger (Sue) Boise, Idaho, Ben (Clara) Fairbanks, Alaska, Oscar (Shirley) Naples, Idaho); and niece, Freida Marchand, Inchelium, Wash.; grandchildren, Tammy (Wally) Barton, Ted Anderson, Ryan (Stephanie) Anderson, Travis (Cara) Anderson, Chris (Lori) Anderson, Julie (Adam) Krezman, Lucinda (Daniel) McLeish, Laree (Travis) Liermann; great-niece, Lynnette McMillan; and great-nephew, Lowell McMillan; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; her sister, Lilly Williams; and brother Tad McCalmant. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, nephew, Leroy Nagel, and daughter-in-law Dorothy Anderson.

Pallbearers: Wally Barton, Travis Anderson, Adam Krezman, Daniel McLeish, Travis Liermann and Conner Krezman.
