100 Years Ago 

The creation in Boundary County of one of the largest game preserves in the northwest is the present aim of the Boundary County Fish and Game Association, which was brought to a focus last week by the application to the State Game Department of A. Klockmann to make a game refuge of the 2,000-acre ranch near Porthill. 

Elmer J. Albright, well-known farmer of the Round Prairie district, closed a deal Monday for the purchase of the Samaria Hotel property, opposite Kent's Hall, from Mrs. Alice O'Connor. 

Myers and Strom plan to open the new Club Cigar Store in their recently constructed building Saturday night, with new equipment throughout. They have installed three pool tables and a new soda fountain and have ample room in their new building to accommodate a large crowd of their many friends. 

50 Years Ago 

The Boundary County Commissioners decided this week that until they can find a replacement for Prosecuting Attorney Quentin Harden, who is leaving the position today, Thursday, to become a lawyer-magistrate for the first judicial district, they will ask local attorneys to fill the bill on an hourly basis. 

James Collyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Collyer of Bonners Ferry, and a radio and television major at the University of Idaho recently won a journalism scholarship. 

15 Years Ago 

Fourteen-time Grammy Award-winning country music and bluegrass star Ricky Skaggs at 7 p.m.  Friday, Aug.7, will perform a free concert at Boundary County Fairgrounds. 

Olson's Valley Ranch in Porthill has been named the Boundary Soil Conservation District's 2009 Conservation Farmer of the Year. 

Activities at the fairgrounds for the All School Reunion will begin at 3 p.m. with class photos, said Karen Pedey, chairwoman for the reunion's reception and information committee and a 1952 BFHS graduate.
