Hannah Lien celebrates Centennial birthday
Hannah Lien recently celebrated her 100th birthday, with family and friends gathering at the extended wing of the Boundary Community Hospital to commemorate the milestone birthday.
Lien was born June 6, 1924, in Chicago, Illinois. She is the second youngest of 12 children and the last surviving child of that family. Lien is also the only person in her large, extended family of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews to have reached the age of 100.
Growing up, Lien was part of a large, working class family in Chicago. Her family endured two world wars, the Great Depression and countless other struggles and life changing experiences throughout their lives.
Lien was married three times, having outlived all of her husbands, and has five children, four of whom are still alive.
A well-traveled woman, Lien, has seen the world and visited many European countries. She has lived in Chicago, Florida, Georgia, and now Idaho.
“Mom has remained a true survivor, a loving friend to many, a devoted mother and grandmother,” son Sam Testa said of his mother. “Mom’s life and character demonstrate a proud woman of endurance, devotion, loyalty, and faithfulness to her family, friends, and religion. Mom’s generation was the salt of the earth. There will never be another generation like them.”
