The proposal of West Kootenay Power and Light Company to double the capacity of its two plants at Bonnington Falls, B.C. by the construction of a dam at Granite to raise the waters of Kootenay Lake approximately six feet has brought out opposition in at least two quarters. The Kootenai Valley Commercial Club recently passed a resolution protesting against the erection of a small dam, on the grounds that it will interfere with the drainage of the river bottom lands in Boundary County.

Seventy cases of whiskey, a quantity of moonshine and some beer was destroyed  at the county jail this morning in the presence of a number of citizens, by U.S. Marshall Breshears and his deputy. This was the largest amount of liquor which has been destroyed in one batch in Northern Idaho.

The Bonners Ferry Colts came from behind and defeated the Sandpoint "Tigers," 10-7, at the fairgrounds. The game was well attended, a large crowd of fans accompanied the Sandpoint team and the game was said to be one of the most exciting ever played on a local field.

Bonners Ferry City Council decided this week that the name of the new municipally owned gold course will be "Mirror Lake." The winner of the name-the-course contest is Don Howe of Bonners Ferry.

Lightning brought a disaster to the farm of Harlan Hylton in Naples this past week. Two cows, a Hereford and an Angus, both of which were due to calve in about two weeks, were struck by lightning when they were standing beneath a tree.

A major slide in the Smith Creek- Long Canyon area yesterday at 1:45 p.m. is being called "absolutely fantastic" by Forest Service officials and others that have seen the sight.

Kara Eby received the Engineering Outstanding Senior Graduate Award from University of Idaho.

Alicia Hannahs was elected president for 2009-2010 for Bonners Ferry FFA.

Bonners Ferry resident Adam Hall made the National Wrestling Coaches Association's Individual All-Academic wrestling team for the 2008-2009 season.

Saturday's nationwide switch to digital television from analog didn't happen in Boundary County. Residents who rely on rabbit ears and antennas for television service can expect that switch on July 21.
