Athlete of the week, Blackmore and Rice, boys basketball

| March 7, 2024 1:00 AM

Two Badger juniors, Eli Blackmore and Brody Rice held their own at the 3A State championship tournament, and are named Athlete of the Week.

Eli Blackmore is the Badgers toughest defender and plays with so much grit every game. In the final minutes of the state championship game on March 2, he received a jump ball for the Badgers when it was a one point game.  Throughout the season Blackmore fought for a loose ball and commonly had floor burns after the game. He can also score and make several big shots at necessary moments for the Badgers.

Brody Rice has done a tremendous job at handling the pressure of point guard this entire season. His quarterback skills transfer to the hardwood as he is always looking for an open teammate, and leads Bonners Ferry in assists. Rice is a sharpshooter in his own right, but more often chooses to get his teammates involved and will dish the ball to an open man to outwit the defense.
