The Boundary County Fish and Game association will soon open a contest in killing pests, and predatory animals and birds, according to action taken at the meeting of the association last Monday. Among the animals given the death sentence are coyotes, cougars, ground squirrels, red squirrels, and such birds as hawks, kingfishers, owls, and crows.

Many of the farmers of the Kootenai Valley are making plans now to cultivate wild hay lands this year and sow these lands to grain and timothy. This decision is based on the likelihood of there being no floods and but little overflowing of the Kootenai River.

Cow Creek School and all the furniture and books in the building were destroyed by fire between nine and ten o'clock Monday night. The loss is estimated at between $3,000 and $4,000 and insurance was carried on the building and contents.

Bonners Ferry City Councilmen approved the first millage increase since 1955 at the city budget hearing Tuesday night. The increase, three mills, is earmarked for parks and recreation and will bring in an additional $6,750 in revenue.

Three new swathers were damaged at the Southside Tractor lot on the south Hill late Saturday when a car left the road and plowed through the machinery. Fred Pinson, of Southside Tractor said one of the swathers , valued at $3,900 , was a total loss, one was repairable, and the damage on the other was still being assessed.

The county commissioners recently approved the purchase and payment for a rescue extrication kit to be used in Boundary County. The extrication equipment will be used to "cut" a car away from a trapped accident victim rather than pulling him out.

A new organization will rent garden space in Bonners Ferry to residents. Gardeners for Regional Organic Well-Being (GROW) will be provided space at Trinity Lutheran Church.

With 74 fewer students in Boundary County School District than one year ago, Superintendent Dr. Don Bartling has proposed elimination three teaching jobs at the end of the school year.

Bonners Ferry High School boys basketball team fell one game shy of qualifying for the 3A State Tournament after losing 57-50 to St. Maries in the district tournament.
