CLUB WRESTLING: Sherrill wins in both Freestyle, Greco-Roman at Victory in the Valley Tourney
GRANGER, Wash. — Sandpoint’s Shane Sherrill (Junior 144) started off the club wrestling season by capturing both the Greco-Roman and freestyle titles at the WSWA Victory in the Valley Tournament held March 9-10 at Granger High.
Sherrill, wrestling for Bonners Ferry Wrestling Club, defeated Caleb Reardon of Burbank by technical fall (10-2) and Oscar Rojas of Tri-Cities by technical fall (10-0) to win the Greco-Roman title. In the freestyle bracket, Sherrill picked up four straight wins by technical fall to take home gold: Oliver Russell of RiverHawk (12-2), Oscar Rojas of Tri-Cities (11-0), Caleb Reardon of Burbank (11-0), and Ethen Mehlenbacher of Burbank (11-0).
Bonners Ferry standout Saber Blackmore (U16 138), won in freestyle and took second in Greco-Roman. Blackmore defeated all opponents by decision to pick up gold in freestyle: Joe Ethan Tristan of Tri-Cities (14-14, TB), Cristian Garcia of Sunnyside (10-6), and Carson Kline of Inland Northwest Wrestling (6-4).
Bonners Ferry’s Eli Leyden (Junior 165) took fourth in freestyle. Sandpoint’s Aidan Rork (Junior 126) also attended the tourney and fought hard, but fell in both of his Greco-Roman matches.
Also wrestling for Bonners Ferry was Dalton Regehr (86-97), who won five overall titles in various 12U and 14U brackets. Regehr took home titles in the U12 and U14 freestyle, the U12 and U14 folkstyle, and the U12 Greco-Roman; he also took home second in the U14 Greco-Roman. He compiled a 14-1 record over the weekend.
