The Kootenai Realty Company reports the sale of several acre tracts on the South Bench the past week. Among the purchasers are Elmer Grunerud, one acre; Carl Virak, two acres; and Theo. Virak, one acre. These men have all ordered fruit trees and berry bushes from B.J. Dewey, representing Washington Nursery Company.

The first definite step was taken toward the erection of a new Methodist Church in Bonners Ferry Tuesday night when the official board of the local Methodist Church voted unanimously in favor of a $25,000 to $30,000 institutional church to be located in the heart of the downtown district.

Ted Kent, recently completed a commercial course at the Northwestern Business College in Spokane has accepted a position as bookkeeper at the First State Bank.

Lori Preston, age 8, and Carson Bosworth, age 7, were judged top winners in the Corner Drug Store Easter coloring contest last week by a panel of judges from the Bonners Ferry Art Club.

Twenty shooters turned out for last Sunday's Trap Shoot and took advantage of possibly the nicest Sunday so far, weather wise. Bob Tinsley shot 50 straight for the highest score this winter followed by John Hankey, Corny Poelstra, Donnie Crum, Randy Poelstra, Mel Branch, all with 23x25.

The Bonners Ferry and Sandpoint Jaycees will join in an "Old Timers Nite" to be held in the American Legion Hall in Bonners Ferry, March 23. Schedule for the evening is a social hour from 7 to 8 in Jack's Club. Dinner will start at 8. Gary Yeoumans, Senator from St. Maries, will be the speaker.

The loss of wildlife from a near record snowfall during the winter of 2007-2008 could result in shorter hunting seasons in 2009 for cow elk and white-tailed doe.

Boundary County Historical Society has received a $3,000 grant for new outdoor railroad interpretive signs on the exterior back wall of the museum.

A public hearing will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, at the Boundary County Courthouse for a proposed assisted living center on Highway 95 north of Three-Mile across from the Mennonite Church.
