Badgers shake off the cobwebs at BF Invite

BONNERS FERRY — The sun came out for the Bonners Ferry Invite and season opener with the boys taking second and the girls finishing in third on Saturday, March 16. 

Senior Eli Newell claimed a first-place finish in the 100m race at 11.57 for the Badger boys. He finished in third in the high jump. 

Also taking first for the Badgers was Asher Williams, Taren Bateman, Makenna Baisden, Ireland Grady and Asha Abubakari. 

Williams soared to victory for the high jump with a mark of a 5—11. The junior claimed victory over Damien Hamberg of Newport due to clearing the mark in fewer attempts. 

For the Badger girls, freshman Taren Bateman won the 200m at 27.76. Sophomore Makenna Baisden notched a 400m victory, clocking at 1:01.81, nearly four seconds ahead of Sandpoint’s Elizabeth Storms.

Ireland Grady won her first high school appearance in the 100m at 17.63 before taking third in the 100m at 13:74.

Defending state champion Asha Abubakari won the discus with a throw of 122-3. She also took second in shot put. 

The Badger girls 4x100 relay claimed first place at 51.64 with Abubakari, Grady,  Bateman, and Baisden participating. The girls also won the 4x200 relay at 4:21.97 with Brooke Petesch, Riley Kimball, Bateman and Baisden running legs. 

The Badgers will compete at Lewiston on Friday, with the first event starting at 10 a.m.
