PREP BASEBALL: Badgers face tough road losses

Bonners Ferry 5-5

LEWISTON — Sophomore Jace Taylor finished the day with seven hits and five RBIs for the 4A Lakeland Hawks in an 11-5 and 15-5 non-league sweep of the Bonners Ferry Badgers at Clearwater Park.

“He came out and just does what he does,” Lakeland coach Al Bevacqua said. “He really picked us up when we needed a boost.”

Taylor had four hits, three RBIs and three runs scored in the opener, then added three hits and three runs scored in the nightcap for Lakeland, which had 32 hits on the day.

“The team hit the ball really well throughout the day,” Bevacqua said. “We had an early start to the day and they showed some grit coming back when we were down some runs and just battling all day.”

Garrett Farrell had two hits and three RBIs in the second game for Lakeland (3-1), which returns to action on April 2, hosting Lake City in a doubleheader.

Bonners Ferry (1-8) hosts Sandpoint in a doubleheader on Thursday.

GRANGEVILLE 11-11

BONNERS FERRY 1-0 

LEWISTON — The Badgers fell to the 2A Grangeville Bulldogs (6-0)  on  March 22, 11-1 and 11-0. 

In Game 1the Badgers had four hits, earning their single run in the first inning. The Bulldogs attacked the plate with seven hits and visited home plate four times in the first and fifth for an 11-1 win. 

In Game 2, the Bulldogs kept up the heat with nine hits and were up 8-0 to start the third, winning 11-0.
