BONNERS FERRY — The future looks bright for Bonners Ferry boys hoops, as the seventh-grade boys basketball team won the 76th annual Bonners Ferry Tournament and finished the season undefeated, 10-0.

As the No. 1 seed the Badgers had a bye in the first round and then defeated St. Maries 54-30. In the championship game, they faced Priest River and claimed a 59-39 victory.

The Badgers had already defeated both teams early in the season.

“They are a great group and play hard every night,” said coach Greg Kissee.

In regards to the team's success this season, Kissee said this season they concentrated on good defense and rebounding.

Many of the players compete in AAU basketball, which Kissee also coaches. This season, six players on the squad hadn’t played AAU and so it was the first time many of the players had been on the court together.

Kissee said the event is great for the community to host and give kids and families a fun day of basketball. This year 22 games were played.

Bonners Ferry eighth-grade boys took second place at the tournament.
