Bonners Ferry Farmers Market now open

BONNERS FERRY — Rain couldn’t stop on opening day. 

For the last 44 years, the Bonners Ferry Farmers Market opening day is an event the community looks forward to. Come rain or shine, the market always opens on the last Saturday of April and this drizzly Saturday was no exception. 

Opening day of the Farmers Market serves as a reminder that spring truly has sprung and warm, sunny days are not far off. And after a long winter of cold, dreary days, the reminder is certainly welcomed with open arms. 

Although the day was gray, the smiles on people's faces made things a little brighter. Market goers mingled with friends and neighbors while exploring the local vendor booths. The wares this year ranged from homemade soap and skin care products to woodwork, jewelry and pottery. As always, flower and vegetable plants were on display as well. 

With the scent of barbecue wafting in from somewhere nearby and live guitar echoing throughout the city lot, the festive atmosphere overshadowed the clouds. 

Children, dodging leftover puddles from the earlier rain, lined up for shaved ice or a fresh cake doughnut. The kids also gathered around the Idaho Department of Fish and Game trailer, fascinated by the massive grizzly bear that was on display as part of their grizzly bear education program. 

The Bonners Ferry Farmers Market also holds other events such as Flowers for Mom on May 11, Games with Dad on June 15 and Kids Day on July 13. Visit the website for more information on the Saturday market and upcoming events. 

The market is located in the city lot next to U.S. 95 and the Bonners Ferry Visitors Center. The market is open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. until the first Saturday in October.
