Brod receives Road Scholar Award
BONNERS FERRY — Dawson Brod, a street laborer at the city of Bonners Ferry street department received his Road Scholar Award at the Tuesday city council meeting.
Brod has worked for the city for five years and was presented the award by the Local High Technical Assistance Council representative Jayme Coonce.
The Road Scholar Program consists of at least 80 hours of core classes and electives usually covered within a four-year period. Some of the topics covered are Roadway Materials, Pavement Maintenance, Effective Communication, Flagger Certification, Winter Maintenance, Motor Grader Operation and Basic Survey. Courses require at least an 80% score to pass in both programs.
Coonce said the program is nearly equivalent to a bachelor's degree in course time. Brod can advance to the Road Master program and take additional courses.
In addition to the certifications, Brod received a leatherman tool and a LHTAC ball cap.
