SOFTBALL: Timberlake wins Game 1 of Districts

SPIRIT LAKE — Alycia Cameron, Reese Allaway and Acacia Pecor each delivered two-run singles in an 11-run first inning, and the host Tigers went on to rout the second-seeded Badgers in Game 1 of a best-of-3 series for the 3A District 1 title and the district’s lone berth to state.

Jaydin Falck, Sadie Frederickson, Kylee Gardner, Rebekah McBride and Kyra Sumpter had hits for the Badgers, who scored three runs. 

Timberlake came out of the gate with 11 runs in the first inning. 

Pecor hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning for Timberlake (13-8), and finished 3 for 4 with four RBIs and four runs scored.

Marissa Needs added a solo homer in a nine-run fourth, and finished 3 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Casey Whaley hit a two-run single in the fourth, and Jesi Kitchin finished 2 for 4 with four RBIs and four runs scored.

Logan Walsh doubled and tripled, drove in three runs and scored three.

Whaley struck out four and scattered five hits for the top-seeded Tigers.

“I’m proud of my kids; they all came to play today,” Timberlake coach Casi Lupinacci said. “We hit the ball hard all afternoon and played good defense behind our pitcher. Acacia, Logan, and Marissa all crushed the ball. We need to continue with this intensity tomorrow.”

Bonners is 4-14.

Game 2 is today at 4 p.m. at Timberlake.
