TRACK & FIELD: Abubakari wins discus at Meet of Champions, state rankings

POST FALLS — Senior Asha Abubakari placed first in the discus with a new personal record of 136–8 at the District 1 Meet of Champions hosted by Post Falls High on Thursday, May 1. 

Abubakari also took second in the shot put with a throw of 41-4, followed by fellow Badger Helene Rae in third with a throw of 40-6.5. 

Sydney Beckle took third in the two-mile race with a time of 12:51.9. The Badgers girls SMR 800m relay team took third at 1:57.06, just behind CDA Charter at 1:56.31 and Post Falls at 1:55.14. 

For the Bonners Ferry boys, Asher Williams finished in third in the high jump at 5-feet, 10-inches behind Wallace’s Julian Davis who had the same mark in fewer attempts.  Sam Gensy took third in the triple jump at 39 feet, 7.5 inches.

Overall the Bonners Ferry boys finished in 8th and the girls claimed fifth place. 

Bonners Ferry will compete at the 3A Intermountain League Championship on Thursday and Friday at Timberlake High School.

Several Bonners Ferry track and field athletes are ranked in the top of 3A state.
