On Friday, the Badger girls 4X100 relay team took first in district with a time of 51.00, breaking the school record from 1978 by Cathi Poulton, Kelly Woods, Rhea Karnes and Shelley Poulton. The record-breaking team includes Asha Abubakari, Makenna Baisden, Ireland Grady and Taren Bateman.

On Thursday the team of Asha Abubakari (100 meters), Ireland Grady (100 meters), Taren Bateman (200 meters) and anchored by Makenna Baisden (400 meters) ran a1:52.84 in the sprint medley breaking the school record set in 1978 by Kathy Tucker, Cathi Poulton, Rhea Karnes and Sandy Goding.

“It was great weather for our sprinters,” Bonners Ferry head coach Travis Hinthorn said. “The girls haven't run together much due to injuries or scheduling so it was fun to see them break these records. We are taking 23 to state and look forward to the state meet. Our girls were close to a trophy last year and we feel we have a good chance this year.”

Brenly Hymus took first in the pole vault at 8-0.

Badgers who finished in second place will also advance to state. Those qualifying to state include Milan VonBeuskist in the 400m; Devin Sceppe for the 110m hurdles, Aiden Jacobson in the pole vault and Alex Taylor in the discus.

For the girls, the 4X200, 4X400m and sprint medley teams took second and will advance to state. Hallie Hartman took second in the discus at 116-7 and Helene Rae took second in the shot put at 41-0.
