'Best' nominations opening, new categories

The Best of Boundary County nomination period opens Saturday, June 1 and closes on June 16. The nomination period is the community’s opportunity to share their top business across categories, from dining, health, beauty, services, shopping, and much more.

This year has a few changes in categories including best educator, volunteer, life coach, sports coach, church and best first responder in the community category. In the dining category, added this year are best fries and best pizza. 

Additionally, best veteran-owned business has also been added as a category. 

When the nomination period closes on June 16, all nominations will be reviewed with business with the most nominations moving on to the voting period, much like a primary election. 

However, some years businesses that are no longer operating receive nominations. Businesses that are permanently closed are not eligible to be nominated.

If a business is nominated for the “best veteran-owned business,” the business owner's military service will be verified before advancing to the voting period. 

The voting period will open on June 24 and close on July 15. The winners of each category will be announced in the Bonners Ferry Herald Best of Boundary County 2024 publication in August.
