A magnitude 2.7 earthquake occurred at 8:15 a.m. Monday about 14 miles south of Bonners Ferry, according to records from the U.S. Geological Survey.
Information from the Geological Survey indicates that earthquakes at 2.5 magnitude and higher may be felt, but only light damage is likely at this magnitude.
Variables such as the distance from the earthquake, what type of soil you are on, and building construction, may create different conditions for earthquake impacts.
Significant damage does not usually occur until the earthquake magnitude reaches somewhere above 4 or 5.
Regional data compiled in 2021 estimated that there have been more than 2,000 earthquakes greater than magnitude 1.0 on the Richter scale across Idaho since 1994.
