This photo was taken October 3, 1933, ninety-one years ago, shortly after the construction of the steel and concrete bridge over the Kootenai River in Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

In addition to that bridge, a short bridge (with a span of rock between them) was constructed over the Spokane International Railroad (Union Pacific) track on the north bank. They replaced the high wooden bridge which had been built in 1910.

Both of those bridges were replaced in 1984 by the "longer" concrete bridge currently in use.

The Boundary County Historical Society and Museum, 7229 Main, Bonners Ferry, Idaho sponsors this column.
