Invest in our children, vote yes for new school

| October 3, 2024 1:00 AM

One of the things that I always looked forward to every school year- for as long as I can remember – was getting new school clothes. To me, that’s one of the perks from childhood.

This year, the item that topped my list was sweater tights. I’m sure it seems like a strange piece of clothing to be excited about; however, tights are the only way this principal can wear a dress or a skirt at Valley View Elementary School. The truth is, when it’s 41 degrees outside like this morning, it feels like 41 degrees inside my office (my space heater is currently blasting). And we all know it’s going to get colder. Many of our students have to wear their coats in the building throughout the day because they are so cold.

Bonners Ferry community? I know there are mixed opinions about whether or not we should vote for a bond to replace this old building. I completely honor people’s right to vote in the manner they choose. I just want to give you one more perspective – and hopefully, I can represent the children that attend this school. It really is quite bad here at Valley View. The building is not insulated, our heating system barely functions, our sewer system is crumbling, the walls are cracked ... I could go on and on. Did you know that it snowed in the bathroom last year?

Folks, we need your help. I am asking you to consider investing in the students at Valley View Elementary and join me by voting yes for a new school.
