Oktoberfest at KRBC

Celebrate Oktoberfest at KRBC on Saturday

As autumn settles in, Oktoberfest celebrations can be found all over in late September and early October.

The very first Oktoberfest was held in Munich in 1810, but the way it is celebrated today is much different than how the event originated. The first Oktoberfest was a wedding reception to celebrate the marriage of Prince Ludwig of Bavaria to Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen.

Since then, the event in Munich has grown into a 16-day festival and has exponentially changed over the years. Today, in the United States, the event is marked with celebrations of all things German and fall, with beer, food, costumes, and activities.

Oktoberfest at the Kootenai River Brewing Company, 6424 Riverside St., begins at noon on Saturday and will continue into the evening with taps set up in the hopyard, live music and a cozy bonfire to keep warm.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Oktoberfest without a special German-inspired menu being served and plenty of house brewed beer.
