BONNERS FERRY — It was a physical, full throttle 80 minute match against the visiting Trojans.

Senior Malachi Chafin scored a hat trick for Post Falls (3-7-2) and beat the Badgers in nonleague play on Monday.

Bonners Ferry (9-3-1) had some good looks on goal, but only Dominic Solum, a freshman forward, was able to score in the 66th minute.

“We played better than what the scores says,” Bonners Ferry head coach Paul Bonnell said. “We had some good looks on goal and they capitalized on theirs. We missed a couple of ours that were right there and got a hand card at the end that let to them scoring a PK.”

Bonnell said he appreciated how the Badgers kept their cool, despite the physical nature of the game.

Badger senior defender, Jesse Fess, stopped over a dozen Trojan advances, and ended up on the group nearly as many times.

Badger top scores, midfielder Eli Blackmore and striker Nik Rawson were also regularly seen rolling out of tackles and running through Trojans to attack the goal.

“Solid 80 minutes of go for it soccer,” Bonnell said, adding that the intensity all game is needed looking to districts.

POST FALLS — Reagan Meine gave the Panthers the lead in the 45th minute before the Intermountain League match was called off due to lightning three minutes later at The Fields.

According to Idaho High School Activities Association rules, if the second half of a match has started, and is delayed due to lightning, the match can be called at that point by a referee’s decision.

Coeur d’Alene Charter athletic director Aaron Lippy said the teams waited out the storm indoors at The Courts until 7:15 p.m. before another bolt was seen in the area as the teams were warming up to resume play.

“We really struggled to play any type of possession game most of the first half,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Stacy Smith said. “We just looked to get rid of it without trying to build anything. We’ve been our own worst enemy lately in that regard. We finally had some good soccer moments toward the end of the first and beginning the second half, we started to string together some connecting passes.”

Coeur d’Alene Charter (5-2-2, 5-0-1 IML) hosts Grangeville on Friday.

Bonners Ferry is 6-6, 4-3.

“Bonners Ferry played with a lot of fire,” Smith said. “I would have liked to have seen what we could have strung together in the second half on our home field.”

First half — 1, BF, unknown, 18:00. 2, Charter, own goal, 17:00. Second half — 3, Charter, Reagan Meine (Sierra Shepard), 45:00.
