COLLEGE NOTEBOOK: Ussher finishes fourth for Lady Warriors at Charles Bowles
Camille Ussher, Lewis-Clark State College Cross Country
Camille, a 2022 graduate of Bonners Ferry High, ran a new personal best 5,000-meter time of 19 minutes and 17 seconds at the 49th Charles Bowles Invitational held Saturday at Willamette University. Camille finished 74th overall out of 216 runners and was fourth for the Lady Warriors, which placed ninth out of 21 scoring teams. LC State will host their home invitational on Oct. 19 at the LC State Cross Country Trail.
Abigail Shumaker, Lewis-Clark State College Cross Country
A 2020 graduate of Bonners Ferry High, Abigail was 83rd overall and fifth for the Warriors at the 49th Charles Bowles Invitational with a time of 19 minutes and 22 seconds.
Emma Lucas, Big Bend CC Volleyball
Emma, a 2023 Bonners Ferry High graduate, posted a combined 40 assists, 13 digs, and two blocks in recent 3-0 losses to Yakima Valley and Columbia Basin. Across 69 sets, the most played by a Lady Viking this season, Emma now has 453 assists, 142 digs, 12 blocks and seven aces. Big Bend (9-11) travels to Wenatchee Valley on Wednesday.
Luke Butler, Pacific Lutheran University Golf
Luke, a 2023 Priest River High graduate, shot a 2-under par 70 and 2-over-par 74 to finish even across two rounds at the University of Puget Sounds’ Logger Shootout held Oct. 5-6 at the Lakeview Golf and Country Club in Soap Lake, Wash. Luke, who had six birdies, five in the first round (four on the last four holes), finished tied for fifth place out of 22 golfers for the Lutes, which finished second out of three scoring teams. PLU travels next to the NWC Fall Classic, set to be held Oct. 13-14 in Newburg, Ore.
Brandon Casey, University of Montana Football
A 2020 Sandpoint High graduate, Brandon made his 36th career start for the Griz in a 48-55 overtime loss to Weber State at home on Saturday. Brandon helped pave the way for 527 total yards — 355 passing, 172 rushing — and 26 first downs. Montana (4-2) hosts Northern Arizona this Saturday.
Aubree Lane, Spokane CC Volleyball
In two recent losses to Treasure Valley (1-3) and Wenatchee Valley (2-3), Aubree, a 2024 Sandpoint High graduate, registered a combined 18 kills, 19 digs, three assists, two blocks and an ace to go along with 60 serve receptions for the Lady Sasquatch (9-10), which travel to Blue Mountain on Wednesday.
